Vitaly Buterin

Canadian-Russian programmer, co-founder and former editor of the print magazine Bitcoin Magazine, co-founder of the Ethereum project, for the idea of ​​which he won the World Technology Award in 2014, bypassing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg and other contenders.

Vytalyk Buteryn became interested in Bitcoin in 2011, and in the same year became a co-founder of Bitcoin Magazine. In 2012, Bitcoin Magazine began to be published as a print publication and became the first major print publication on this topic. He is also a member of the editorial board of the first peer-reviewed scientific journal Ledger, dedicated to cryptocurrencies and related topics. In the same year, he represented Canada in the prestigious “IOI” International Olympiad in Informatics and became a bronze medalist.

In 2014, he dropped out of the University of Waterloo to work on Ethereum. In the same year, he moved to the Swiss city of Zug (Kryptodolyna). Before starting work on Ethereum, he was also involved in various open source projects related to Bitcoin.

On November 30, 2018, Vytalyk Buteryn received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel. Vitaly received recognition from the Faculty of Business and Economics for his work on blockchain development at the Dies Academicus, the annual celebration of the university’s foundation.

In 2021, he became the youngest cryptocurrency billionaire in the world. The American Forbes estimated Buterin’s fortune at 1.3 billion dollars and included him in the list of the most notable new billionaires.

In March 2022, he became the face of the cover of TIME magazine, which was published in NFT versions for the first time in history.
